What is this Fix thing?

You're curious. You see the results. You want to know more...

The 21 Day Fix is a Beachbody program, from the makers of P90X and Insanity. It is a set of DVD (or instant on-demand streaming) workouts and a comprehensive meal plan intended to be used over a short round of 21 days for fast and encouraging results. It is possible to lose up to 15 lbs within 21 short days. Where will you be in 3 weeks?




So, there are the typical questions that are asked...

What are the workouts like?

There are 7 workouts, and, depending on your package, a couple bonus workouts for fun. All of the workouts are 30 minutes. Short and sweet. Well, not very sweet. More like short and sweaty! These workouts are scheduled in a certain order to maximize results. There are no pure rest days, but there are 'active rest days' scheduled in the form of Pilates Fix and Yoga Fix. The workouts are mainly weight-based, using hand weights or a resistance band. They are not very high impact, and there's a modifier available for every move. No matter your fitness level, from beginner to advanced, you can get a good workout from this program! Autumn Calabrese, the instructor, is very attuned to proper form and will give clear instructions as to how the moves are supposed to be performed. 

What are those color container thingys?

The color containers are your meal plan! Each container refers to a food group:



The package comes with a full book on the meal plan. There's a handy dandy calculation in the book that will tell you what calorie level you will be on. But that is literally the ONLY time you will EVER talk about or see a calorie number. You do NOT have to count calories. According to your level, you eat so many of each container per day. For example, I eat 4 Green, 3 Purple, 4 Red, 3 Yellow, 1 Blue, 1 Orange, and 4 Teaspoons each day. Yes, that is a LOT of food. And it suggests that you spread your food out into 5-6 small meals or snack through the day. This will fire up your metabolism in ways you can't even imagine! 

The book provides a complete list of all of your healthy food options that you can fit into each container. It fits? You eats. Simple as that. 

The book also has some recipe ideas, seasoning recipes, and meal planning ideas. However, the BEST way to get recipes and meal planning help is to join one of my CHALLENGE GROUPS. More on that later. :) 

What equipment do I need?

You can choose whether to go with hand weights (dumbbells) or resistance bands. I'm a fan of the hand weights, but the bands may be better for you if you travel frequently. If you choose hand weights, you need a light set and a heavy set. Be SMART about this. If you haven't worked out in a while or haven't done any weight lifting lately, or at all, do NOT go out and buy 15s and 20s. You will get exhausted doing these moves with ANY weight, so pick something that won't hurt yourself. When in doubt, start low. Think 3s and 5s, or 5s and 7s. You can always keep the stickers on and trade them for a higher weight after a day or two. 

A yoga mat or fitness mat is recommended. I have a thick carpet in front of my living room TV, so I just use a towel. But I would definitely want something thicker if I was on hardwoods or tile. You will kneel and lay down for some of the exercises. 

Special workout clothes? THAT'S THE BEST PART. Because you do this in your home, you can wear your rattiest running shorts, your holiest (and I don't mean sacred) yoga pants, and your favorite nasty stained t-shirt. Ladies, I would suggest a decent sports bra, but you could probably work out naked otherwise.

What is this Shakeology stuff?

Shakeology is part of the Challenge Pack option. You don't have to buy the Shakeology to get the 21 Day Fix. BUT, I highly recommend it. It's much more than just a protein powder, and you can't find it anywhere else. Trust me; I tried. Check out the page about Shakeology for more information.
